Incident Information Management Systems (IIMS) Training Documentation and Support Team
Client
Pennsylvania State Police (PSP)
Project Description
The IIMS Training Documentation and Support Team includes a Project Manager and a Training Specialist working together with LMC personnel and PSP personnel (civilian, enlisted and Subject Matter Experts) to provide a Master Training Plan, complete course curriculum and training materials for all end-user groups, and coordination of end-user and technical training. Applications integrated to form IIMS include, a Geographic Information System, Records Management System, Computer Aided Dispatch, Telephony and Radio Systems, and a Mobile Office System.
Project Tasks
The IIMS Training and Documentation and Support Team provides the following services:
- Maintaining the Master Training Plans – Throughout the life of the program, the team maintains a Master Training Plan (MTP) with an integrated Training Design Document. The MTP supplies a written outline of all IIMS training responsibilities including: Train the Trainer activities, technical support training, end-user training, training schedules, and documentation guidelines.
- Technical Writing / Instructional Design – The team designs, develops, and maintains user guides and instructional materials on the supported applications. The team provides documentation in five main forms:
- Detailed User Guides: Provide instruction about every aspect of the supported application including block and field descriptions as well as step-by-step procedures. A separate user guide exists for each of the seven end-user groups.
- Abbreviated User Guides: Provide easy to follow, step-by-step instruction on the most commonly performed steps and procedures within a supported application.
- Presentations: Provide in-class presentations to present change management ideas to the various end-user groups or to supplement hands-on activities.
- Scenarios: Provide practice examples for “hands-on” exercises in-class and in the PSP station training environment.
- Practicums: Provide exams both written and system-based in which a 70% or above must be achieved to gain access to the IIMS software.
All training materials are evaluated through a three-tier quality assurance regimen to assure validity and accuracy of all training information.
- Train the Trainer – The team designs the PSP Train the Trainer course, schedules vendors, monitors the sessions, and promotes a thorough knowledge of the system acting as trainer and system expert.
- Representatives in the Operations, Training, and Testing Team (OTT) - As representatives of the OTT Team, consisting of LMC, PSP, and Veridyne, Inc. personnel, the team performs in the early testing/integration of the application systems to ensure training materials are up to date with system enhancements and/or customizations, identifies Standard Operating Procedures which need to be added or adapted to IIMS applications, and informs PSP of training issues that will effect the PSP Training and Education department.
- Training Coordination – The team assists the Pennsylvania State Police in scheduling, observing, and monitoring the success of both end-user and technical training. The team ensures the readiness of all PSP training facilities by coordinating the installation of IIMS applications with LMC engineers, preparing and loading scenario information into a training database, and performing a checklist on each training unit to ensure version control and system connectivity.
